  1. This article is a little out dated but the contents of it still have relevance. It is about the use and benefits of technology as a whole in the restaurant industry. The first part of the article talks about a restaurant in the DC area called Kinkead’s. This restaurant has a POS system in place where the wait staff enters the order into the computer and all avenues automatically and instantaneously receive the slip. If there are beverages the bar will get one, food the kitchen receives one, and even the raw oyster bar will get one. This is something that has been happening in restaurants for some time now. The thing that I found interesting about this restaurant is the kitchen. The production of the food is done in the center of the dining room for everyone to see. This restaurant is not like the fire and ice at providence place no one will be getting up to order anything directly from the chefs. It’s actually a fine dining establishment where all the line cooks are wearing wireless headsets. When the expediter receives the ticket he will speak into the headsets and the line will respond. Maybe some of you have heard of this before but its something new to me and apparently it’s been around for a while. The article goes on to talk about the “Undeniable efficiencies” and the befits of a fully automated system which is something that we have all heard before but then it talks about witch types of systems might be better for witch types of restaurants.
This article I think could benefit us because it sheds light on some areas that I hadn’t thought about in the technological realm. It also talks about the efficiency of a cretin system that should be geared toward a certain establishment which is something that I didn’t take into account alwell.

  2. I have never personally heard of anything like this before. The POS system there i feel is great in the way it remembers guests or creates new guests and tells when the birthdays, and anniversaries and other special occasions.
Also the caller ID system that tells who is calling as well as what they enjoy eating, where they enjoy sitting etc...
I feel that these things would bring the guest experience to a whole new level. Service would also be much more efficient.

  3. I also haven't ever heard of this, it's a great idea though. What better form of entertainment then to go out to a fine dinning establishment, order your food and get to see it prepared as well as other tables food. It also has benefits for the restaurant to show all of the menu items off. If you think about it, it's a great way to upsell or even get guest attention. If the guests see an interesting dish in production they would either be prompt to order that dish or make sure to come back and order it.
This system reminds me vaguely of a restaurant that a chef told me about years ago, where the guest are able to sit at a table and order food directly from a touch screen panel embedded in the table at their seats. Though I;m unsure if the guest got to see their food being prepared in front of them. Though the automated system in the article reminded me of the story.
